The cost of a Walmart pet insurance plan is based on several factors, such as location and your pet’s breed and age. Below we’ll take a look at pricing for different breeds and ages.
Plans and Costs
Most providers offer plans with accident-only or accident-illness coverage. The first of these options only covers the cost of unexpected accidents that happen to your pet, such as a broken leg or ingested toy. Accident-illness plans cover any accidental injuries or unexpected illnesses your pet develops. Other providers also offer add-on coverage for therapies, specialist visits, and hospital boarding.
Instead of splitting up coverage, Fetch offers one comprehensive plan that encompasses many of the services other providers charge extra for.
Also, Walmart’s policy through Fetch doesn’t offer add-ons but instead includes additional services automatically. So while some providers charge extra fees for services like physical therapy, these services are already covered by Fetch.
At this time, Fetch doesn’t offer a wellness plan to cover preventative pet care. Wellness plans typically cover up to a certain dollar amount for expected yearly services such as checkups, vaccines, and spaying/neutering procedures. Fetch excludes these services from all plans because they don’t fall under the umbrella of accidental illnesses or injuries.

Your annual deductible is the amount of money you’ll pay out of pocket before your insurance starts covering costs. Walmart pet insurance has customizable plan options, allowing pet owners to choose from a range of deductible, maximum coverage, and reimbursement options.
If reimbursement is important to you, you could choose the minimum deductible option of $250, along with an unlimited annual payout and a 90% reimbursement rate. A plan like this costs about $85 a month but reimburses more if your pet has frequent or costly vet visits.
Deductibles – $250, $300, or $500.
For incidents occurring during your policy period, you are responsible for a co-pay from which your deductible will be subtracted. If your pet has multiple treatments spanning across policy periods, you will be responsible for the deductibles of each policy. You can apply to increase your deductible at any time. You can apply to decrease your annual deductible once your policy is up for renewal, but only if you did not file any claims during your last policy period.
Preventative Care Limits
Pet insurance is designed to cover unexpected vet services, but Fetch doesn’t currently cover the preventative care your pet will need every year. It’s your responsibility to pay for services such as checkups, teeth cleanings, and vaccinations for rabies, distemper, parvovirus, etc. Fetch also considers medications like vitamins and parasite preventatives to be preventative care and doesn’t cover them.
If you’re considering Fetch, it’s important to keep your pet up-to-date on yearly wellness visits. To receive coverage through Fetch, your pet must have undergone a medical exam six months prior to your policy start date or within 30 days after the policy begins. Failure to complete a wellness exam may result in termination of your policy.
Fetch doesn’t cover the following preventative services:
- Wellness exams
- Heartworm tests
- Internal parasite or fecal tests
- Blood work
The services listed above aren’t covered because they are part of your pet’s expected yearly care. Keep in mind that services like blood work and fecal tests will be covered if prescribed by a licensed veterinarian as part of the treatment for an unexpected illness or injury.
Note that the company plans to start providing preventative care coverage in 2022. According to Fetch’s website, it will begin covering services like spaying/neutering, teeth cleaning, parasite prevention, and more.

Waiting periods are important to consider when purchasing a pet insurance plan. A waiting period is a time frame policyholders must wait before certain coverages kick in. If your pet gets sick before the waiting period is up, you have to pay the full amount without any reimbursement. Fetch’s waiting periods are 15 days for illnesses and injuries and six months for cruciate ligament injuries.
Some incidents may be classified as pre-existing conditions and will be excluded from coverage, even if they occur during the waiting period.
Pre-existing conditions are problems your pet was diagnosed with or symptomatic of prior to the start of your policy. Like all other pet insurance providers, Fetch doesn’t cover the costs of diagnosing or treating pre-existing conditions.

You can also customize your reimbursement rate for each vet bill, with options ranging from 70% to 90%. Keep in mind that with higher reimbursement rates and lower deductibles, you’ll pay a higher monthly premium. You can pay a lower monthly premium but will have less coverage in the event of a costly vet visit.

As we mentioned, Walmart pet insurance doesn’t charge for signup fees or add-ons. Instead, it covers a wider range of services, including cancer treatments, hereditary conditions, X-rays, MRIs, and ultrasounds. It also covers sick visits and exam fees, saving you an average of $50 to $250 per visit.

As of last year, Fetch works with any licensed vet in the United States and Canada. At this time, Fetch doesn’t offer TeleVet services in New York, New Jersey, and Canada and some partner discounts are unavailable to residents in Florida, Tennessee, and Hawaii. Should any Fetch policy clash with state statutes, the policy will be amended to conform within that state.
