About Companion Protect Pet Insurance

Underwritten by Aspen American Insurance Company, Companion Protect Pet Insurance Company is a popular pet insurance company that offers affordable pet insurance with extensive coverage. They offer a flat rate for pet insurance that stays in force for all of the dog’s life and, unlike some pet insurance companies, doesn’t increase as the dog gets older. There are many reasons why pet owners are choosing Companion Protect Pet Insurance, including its thorough coverage, low deductibles, low co-pays and their excellent handling of pre-existing conditions. Get more information here and learn why you may want to check into Companion Protect Pet Insurance.

Coverage

When pet owners attempt to purchase pet insurance, it can be confusing at times. They want something simple that does not require days of comparing and researching. Companion Protect offers a simple process because it does not offer various different policies with each one more complicated than the one before. Companion Protect offers one comprehensive plan that provides coverage for the most common services, including accidents, illnesses, prescription medications, alternative therapies and similar vet services.

Here are a few of the things Companion Protect covers under illnesses.

  • Surgeries
  • Cancer treatments
  • Hospitalization and Emergencies
  • Arthritis treatment
  • Prescription medications
  • Prescription food
  • Knee and luxating patella issues
  • Respiratory problems
  • Diabetes
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Kidney disease
  • Allergies
  • Urinary tract infection

Here are some examples of things covered under the accident portion.

  • Stitches
  • Being hit by car
  • Tooth and mouth injuries
  • Insect stings and bites
  • Eye scratches
  • Bites from other animals
  • Swallowing foreign objects

A Companion Protect policy also offers coverage for alternative care, such as herbal therapy, homeopathy, acupuncture, naturopathy and chiropractic. The premiums for most pet insurance policies are based on several factors, including the type of animal, breed of animal, sex, age and location. Companion Protect does not discriminate against certain breeds or certain age. A policy for a three-year-old dog requires a monthly premium of about $44.99. A policy for a three-year-old cat requires a premium of about $22.99. Get a quote based on your area and breed to determine what your monthly rate will be.

Limits

Regardless of how comprehensive a pet insurance company may be, there are still some vet services that are not covered under the pet insurance policy. Companion Protect is no exception to this rule. Here are some limitations of what Companion Protect may not cover.

  • Flea, heartworm, tick and similar parasite control medications
  • Vaccinations
  • Spaying or neutering
  • Dental care not caused by an accident
  • Declawing or dew claw removal
  • House calls
  • Boarding
  • Elective euthanasia not recommended by vet
  • Obedience training
  • Bathing or grooming
  • Cloned pets
  • Repeat injuries or illnesses coming from the same cause
  • Eating disorders
  • Vitamins or nutritional supplements

Deductibles

Many pet insurance companies offer various deductible amounts. Deductibles are the amount the owner must pay before the insurance will pay on the claim. They also offer various reimbursement amounts. Once again, Companion Protect makes things simple. They pay 90 percent of all covered services and require pet owners to pay a $50 deductible for each occurrence.

For instance, you bring your dog into the vet for a covered illness. If the total bill is $2,000, your portion of the bill is $195. This is based on $2,000 – $50 deductible equals $1,950. With a 90 percent reimbursement rate, you would be required to pay 10 percent of $1,950, which equals $195.

Claims

Filing a claim with Companion Protect is very simple and easy. You pay the bill and submit it to the insurance company. The claim is typically paid within a day or two. The process goes very quickly when you are going through the Vetwork Network, which is a network of veterinary service providers. There are various Vetwork partners throughout the United States. You’ll generally get discounted services when you choose a veterinarian in the network.

Another benefit of being part of the Vetwork Network is that Companion Protect pet owners are assured they can provide their pets with veterinary care when it’s needed. This is because they offer Vet Direct Pay. Vet direct pay is an agreement between the vet and Companion Protect that states that the vet will pay on the claim and pay almost immediately.

When you bring your pet in for veterinary services, the vet presents you with the bill upon services. You pay your $50 deductible and the co-pay, and the remainder of the bill is submitted to the insurance company for prompt payment. If you’ve visited a vet that is not part of the Vetwork Network, you can still file your claim over the phone, but you’ll have to pay a $100 deductible and a co-pay of $100 per claim.

Pre-approval may be required for certain vet services. These might include:

  • Surgical procedures
  • Tissue or organ transplants
  • Vet specialist fees
  • Hip dysplasia treatment
  • Covered services costing more than $2,500

Vetwork Partners also provide pets with one free wellness exam per year if they there under seven years old and two free wellness exams per year if they are seven years older or older. They also file the claim on behalf of the pet owner, so the pet owner doesn’t have to deal with the hassle.
